About us

Affinity Teaching School Alliance is a cohort 1 Teaching School based at Kibworth CE Primary School in Leicestershire. Designated in 2012 we work with a partnership of 21 primary and secondary schools from across Leicestershire, Leicester City and Rutland. We pride ourselves on being a ‘purposeful schools improvement partnership’ and focus our work on the NCTL Big 3 which includes:

  • Proving Outstanding Initial Teacher Training and newly qualified teacher support
  • Providing cohesive continual professional development, peer to peer professional leadership development
  • Delivery of school to school support for all partner schools.

This management board helps steer the direction of the alliance and helps shape the our delivery as well as leading on some of our key project developments.

Our TSA has a wide team of school improvement experts who support the delivery of alliance activity. This team includes system leaders and partnership professionals who all lead on aspects of the alliance’s work and form a part of Discovery’s School Improvement Team.

Initial Teacher Training and Career Entry Support

In February 2014 we became an accredited SCITT providing Primary initial teacher training with our partner TSA Candleby Lane TSA and now train up to 70 trainees per year across the partnership. In November 2017 we were rated Outstanding by Ofsted and continue to develop our work further as aprovider. Affinity TSA works hard to ensure that teachers are well supporting in the early years of their career and has a robust programme of support through its career entry programme– details can be found here. This programme can be accessed by both members and non member schools and is delivered by Emma Turner our CPDL lead for the alliance.

Continual Professional Development and Learning

Affinity TSA partners recognise the importance of investing in our staff and know that the quality of professional learning they access directly impacts their classroom practice. As such we have developed a comprehensive range of opportunities for staff to access each year regardless of your role in school.

Support staff, Teachers and Leaders in alliance partner schools can access a broad range of development opportunities during their career. Affinity organises a range of collaborative learning programmes, network meetings, conferences and bespoke programmes to meet the needs of our schools which are led by our system leaders and Lead Professionals.

Affinity TSA is a core partner of Inspiring Leaders a license holder for the National Professional Qualifications in school leadership. All member schools benefit from discounted access to the following programmes;

School to School Support (S2SS)

Affinity TSA supports every member of the alliance with S2SS each year through its integrated bespoke planning process. Each school in the alliance is allocated a supporting system leader and provided with an opportunity to tailor the support their school receives each year through a running S2SS process. We provide support in a range of ways for schools which include some of the following:

We have a consistent charging policy for our work:

NLE/LLE Support = £550 per day
SLE Support = £350 per day

If you would like support in your school and you are not part of the alliance please get in touch and we will endeavour to support you.

SSIF Reading Project

In January 2018 Affinity TSA was awarded £489,000 by the DFE to lead on a County wide reading improvement project focussing on KS1-KS2 progress. We are working closely with local TSAs and MATS and 41 partner schools in a local learning cluster model to support these schools to improve their approach to teaching and leading reading.

Regional Partnership

Affinity TSA plays a key role in the regional TSA partnership sitting on the East Midlands South Yorkshire and Humber (EMSYH) partnership board and contributes to the East Midlands Teaching School Alliance partnership (See logo) which leads and coordinate the school lead system in the region.
